About the Collection NikeLab ACG redefines sport utility for the city. Now designed for unpredictable summertime conditions, this collection offers a minimalist approach to maximum functionality and adaptability. Every detail has been painstakingly considered to enable natural movement, no matter the environment, for all conditions.Nike Free Origins After learning that Stanford athletes had been training barefoot on the university's golf course, three of Nike's most innovative and creative employees set out to develop a shoe that felt natural and weightless, similar to bare feet. In 2002, they examined a group of men and women with pressure-measuring insoles taped to their feet, using high-speed cameras to capture images of each foot in motion. The team spent eight years studying the biomechanics of shoeless running. The results yielded a profound understanding of the foot's natural landing angle, pressure and toe position, allowing Nike designers to build an unconventional and flexible running shoe from the inside out.ACG Free Rift OriginsDebuted in 1996, the original Nike Air Rift was developed with insight from Tinker Hatfield and inspired by the running style of Kenyan barefoot athletes. Named after Kenya's Rift Valley province, the Air Rift attracted an audience who simply wanted to wear something this strange and beautiful on their feet.About the Collection When it launched in 2014, NikeLab's ACG redefined sport utility for the city. Today the journey continues with a summer collection for the transition to autumn. Designed for city terrain, each piece is made to protect and adapt while enabling natural movement. Built for the new urban explorer, this is NikeLab ACG.
